Does any one have a problem with the shaft turning when anchored in a current?

I do not have that issue but I know it is not uncommon. It is more of an issue with dripless logs lack of lubrication. With packing I don't think it is turning fast enough to cause an issue. There is a positive to it. If the shaft turns that easy, and your packing is not leaking, I would say your packing is not to tight( adjusted properly) and you have a good X-Y alignment (shaft is centered from cutlass bearing to engine coupling flange. Demonstrating no bind or friction. As far as I know there is no damage that can be caused to your transmission from free wheeling a prop at low speeds (caused from anchorage with current). Some people with twins that are running with one engine at higher speeds will lock the shaft from spinning especially if they have a dripless packing. If it makes noise and bothers you you can lock it down with a strap it will not take much to stop it from spinning. If you do this make sure you have the engine key attached to the lock devise. I know I would forget !!

Hello Lenny,

It's not a problem at all.
