Yahoo! Just did a shakedown cruise from San Diego to Santa Catalina Island. Spent 4 nights on a ball in Avalon. The ride over got a little crazy with over 20 kts of wind and a 4 to 5 ft swell/wind chop for about the last 25 miles of the trip. Ran 6 to 8 kts in chop as slower was much too uncomfortable. We named the dinghy Mr Toad due to its wild ride. As has been stated before in posts on this forum, the boat handled it much better than the crew. We did learn a lot about our new little vessel. We were the envy of friends that were there on an older sailboat that had no electricity for coffee. To add insult to injury the chef aboard served dinner one night of pulled pork sandwiches, broccoli salad, coleslaw. Fed 8 people easily in the cockpit. The ride home was much calmer as we left at 430 am to beat the wind. Had a 9 to 10 kt run down to San Diego over glassy seas of 1 to 2 ft. Good ole "otto" drove while the crew alternated naps and lookout. Mr Toad even had a better time of it on the tow. We are more delighted with our R27 tug than ever. There were 5 Ranger Tug boats in Avalon, 2 21's, our 27, a 29 and a newer Cutwater.

Congratulations.... Yes the RT boats do handle well in 4-6 feet swells/wave-height.... the boat handles it better than the crew onboard as I have personally found out. 🙂 I'm glad your trip was a success. Continue to enjoy. It now seems that wherever you boat to these days there will always be another RT boat or two waiting to greet you.

Take care.... 🙂
