Shifter protection

We have a 2014 Ranger 31 which has a sliding door by the starboard wheel. I have found when using the door to enter or exit I sometime find I'm moving the shifter by the door, which I do not want to do. Has anyone else seen this as a potential problem and what have you done to prevent this?

I have done that too. I am just very cognizant of that potential hazard. Go through the door carefully not only watching body position side to side but also to avoid bumping one’s head on the rather low door clearance!

If you press the neutral lock button, then move the shifter slightly backward, it will be farther out of the way. It will also keep the boat out of gear if you bump it. It will still rev up, but at least it won't cause the boat to move.

My solution has been to lose 30 pounds (on the admiral's orders). It made a difference. Still not sure why. 😉
