In search of the R21EC Shop manual for the boat. I have the Yanmar manual and the others. What I need is boat specs, such as the shaft, prop and packing (stuffing box). For example I had to call Richard Becker in Ranger Tugs parts to find out that the 1" shaft on the R21EC takes a 3/16" Flax packing. This is vital info,. as other boats with stuffing boxes with 1" shafts take 1/4 inch packing. the R21EC is a bit special, so I really need a boat shop manual!

Mike,
If your looking for a owners manual like you have for your automobiles you will be out of luck!
Usually the original owner was given the manual for each piece of equipment that was installed buy the factory, if your like I am and purchased used I did not get but a few of the manuals and operation instructions. Thank heaven for the internet and this site! It's really a challenge as sometimes it's a cross between being a detective and the Easter bunny! But it is fun and rewarding when you can solve and fix a problem on your own. I have a folder that I put information, info in for future use.
Have fun with it as that's what we got the boat for, and the most fun is the learning and sharing.
Best of luck! Bob

Hi Mike, I have a 2012 21EC and am doing the groundwork in case I need to replace the packing in the stuffing box. I am currently looking at adjusting the drip rate which seems too much, but it appears the stuffing box has never been checked since new and loosening the lock nut is a challenge as many 21EC owners have found. You are correct the propeller shaft is 1 inch but I am confused regarding the packing. Many posts on Tugnuts going back 10 years say that ¼ inch packing is required not 3/16 in? Also previous posts say the RT advice is to check with Marine Hardware for the correct size of packing since this is where RT source all these parts. Marine Hardware produce a traditional stuffing box for a 1 inch shaft but it takes ¼ inch packing? Another post recommends measuring the gap in the stuffing box to be sure - makes sense but difficult. Obviously important to have the right size packing before removing old packing. Grateful if other 21EC owners who have explored this can throw some light on the issue. As background there is a great deal of very useful information and good advice on Tugnuts about adjusting the stuffing box, replacing the packing, type of packing, when to change (if ever), drip rates etc. Thanks everyone.
