My shower pump was running today with no water in the sump. Had to pull the fuse to shut it off. Any thoughts on why it would suddenly run with no water?

Probably the sump needs cleaning. And now also the pump intake. They tend to build up with crud and things that grow.

I had the same problem. I took the lid off the sump and tapped the float and it stopped. It worked fine for a few weeks then it wouldn't work ... I ended up changing the float after overflowing the sump . I would check the float. If that is the issue I would just replace it while you have it apart

I should have mentioned that the shower has not been used since I bought my boat 3+ years ago. We use the onshore facilities or the lake. The pump has had RV antifreeze thru it each fall, but that's all. Getting at it looks like a challenge.

My air conditioners drain into the sump .. On my 29 it is very easy just under the bed One of the easier things I have had to work on

Phil,
After going through the trouble of getting to the pump, you may want to consider eliminating the float and installing a manual switch to turn it on when needed, especially since you are not using it. This will eliminate having another float switch failure, which seems to be a common occurrence.

Good suggestion....thanks Mike.

Irish Mist, I wish it was that easy on the 27.

I really feel the 27 is the best all round boat in the fleet, but I must say from what I read the smaller boats seem to be a challenge to service. Fortunately everyone shares here so the servicing becomes easier.

Here's a link to a procedure that I wrote a few years ago to replace the switch and pump in an R-25;

I believe that the setup is similar to the R-27.

I also suggest that you add a secondary switch with On/Auto/Off. Your pump is connected directly to the battery, and if the switch fails closed when you are not present (as it has for others), you will drain and likely destroy your house batteries.
