Last winter it got cold in the PNW. When I went down to the boat I noticed the pump was running and, because of the temps, I chose to just pull the fuse and deal with it later, Well, it's later and after reinstalling the fuse the pump is still running, any thoughts on what is going on? I guess I assume it's a stuck float valve but thought I'd ask for others experience here before I dive into it. Not really sure how hard it is to get to the float valve.

Yup, could be a stuck float switch. Not familiar with the C28 but you'll need to locate the sump box and inspect / clean the whole thing out: filter, box, pump and switch. HTH, Gary

Your assumption is likely correct. The float is actually an electrical switch and not a valve. The float could be stuck in the ON position or the switch itself could be bad and failed ON. Those float switches are a constant source of problems. A fair number of folks have removed or deactivated the float switch and replaced it with a manual switch. Here’s a link to the post I made about doing so:

Replace the automatic float switch with a manual switch ONLY if the shower sump on your boat serves ONLY the shower. On some boats, the shower sump also serves the air conditioning condensate drain. In that case, the automatic float switch should remain.

I don’t know where the shower sump is located on a C-28. Hopefully someone will reply with that information.

I have a 2016 C-28. The shower sump will fill up with crud and stick the float valve. The sump is a bit difficult to access and requires some modifications to remove it. We have discussed this previously and you can review those in the index under “C-28 Shower Sump” or “Shower Sump Housing Access”.
That said, feel free to reach out to me and I would be happy to discuss this if I can be of help. You can send me a PM or reach me at jerronwalker@hotmail.com

Again, thank you all for your responses and for pointing me towards earlier discussions on the topic. I'm going to head down to the boat tomorrow and based on what I know now, I'll reassess. When I was there yesterday, I couldn't even find the screws/bolts that hold the box in place. I need to look closer. Also, I replaced my hockey puck transducer with a through hull transducer last year so removing it, if needed, won't be as easy to do.

One more question on this topic, does anyone know the make/model of this pump? I'd like a visual of it prior to installation to help me evaluate a path forward.

At the boat today and I guess the installer who put in my Thru hull sensor was thinking - I was able to remove the sump without any real issue. After cleaning and testing, it appears my float has failed on. Ordered a replacement. Thanks for the feedback!
