I finally got around to putting the Weaver davits on the swim platform and the pads on the dinghy. I don't carry the dinghy on the boat all the time, only when I expect to anchor out. It makes it impossible to close the curtain in the boathouse. For years I have simply pulled up the dinghy across the platform and tied it off to the small cleats. The inconvenience came when I simply wanted to move a short distance to another anchorage since that meant deflating, hauling aboard and inflating again.
So the davits and pads, as many things, are much more expensive in Canada and I decided not to add the stand-offs, more pads etc.. I know the advantages as we have had the complete set-up on a previous Carver but that was when the dinghy lived on the platform for long periods. Instead of the factory unit I fabricated an extremely simple and cheap ($20) solution out of 1" ID PVC pipe that I can easily assemble and disassemble for storage. I put a photo in the Modifications folder in our album if anyone is interested. I took the boat out for a trial run before the weekend and it seemed fine. Time will tell how well it stands up to use and abuse.
