Went to remove the 4 ft long stainless skid plate attached to the bottom of the keel of my r25. About 5 bolts hold it with sealant Went to unscrew the bolts and the bolt head broke off on at least 3 bolts, flush with the plate. So, my question is, can you pry the plate away from the keel by breaking it away from the sealant? That way I can get the rest of the bolt out
with a large locking pliers or something similar. I don't really see the need for the bar anyway.

I am not sure but that plate may help to hold the aft keel/prop shaft tunnel in place. The aft keel which includes the prop shaft tunnel is a bolt on part of the hull. I would contact RT factory and get their opinion prior to removing the plate.

Curious, why would you want to remove and not replace it?

I think he may want to remove it assuming ne could grab what is left with a vice grip. I suggested on his other post that he use a cobalt bit and an easy out rather than try to remove the plate.

Hi all,

Dclagett is right. Those bolts hold the keel extension in place. That plate needs to be installed to help transfer the load from the bolts and to allow them to have a proper place to seat. Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Ralf
