I am not used to flat skylights such as are in our boats and have a concern.

We have had rain events here in the San Juan Islands in WA the past two days and yesterday the rain lasted for hours, with that possibility again today. I am noticing standing water on some of the skylights and wonder if the seals will need to be checked regularly? If so, what specIfically should we check for, hardening or softening of the sealant?

I have 8 skylights on the pitched roof of my 26 yr old home, and the flashing is what might wear, if I understand, whereas as I am lookIng up in the v-berth, I am concerned with the standing water...

Have any of you experienced any problems or had any concerns? I did not find this topic listed so perhaps it is not an issue...?

Thanks in advance.

We live in rainy Kodiak, AK, own a 2009 R-25 and never have had an issue with a leaky skylight. We are up on top walking near and around the skylights so they get used. Once a season we "lubricate" all the seals during the spring clean up. This winter some ice formed between the seal in one of the vertical windows and it leaked down the inside wall a little moisture. After it thawed it sealed up tight again. At the end of each trip in salt water we just spray off all the windows and windows are sealed.

And there is a blog thread on what Diamond SeaGlaze recommends for window treatments too. I have used it and highly recommend this several step treatment.

Have had my R25 now for almost 4 years in Florida where we get some very heavy rains. I have never had a leak issue with the skylights.

Thanks for the comments and info about the website! Now I will care for the windows properly and not be overly concerned about leaks.

I will sleep better in the rain now :!:

This window cleaning process is a three step process and leaves the windows with a great feeling coating. I have not retreated the windows for months and they still stand up to the elements with an easy rinse off.

Anne --- The Auklet does have a leak in the hatch over the dining table. I think the leak is in the bedding of the frame. Today I climbed up on the roof and tightened all the screws. They were all loose. If that doesn't work, I will have to rebed the frame. Probably a sponge gasket, but I won't know until I have time to take it apart.
Some time ago you asked about covers for the foam pads. Pat just made some for our v-berth. If you are still around Anacortes, you should come by and check them out. Auklet is at N-24.
