Hey Gang,

We all know that salt, dirt and grime accumulate on our window slides and it's pretty common to have them get stuck once in a while. I use a small plastic putty knife along the rubber channel to free them. My question is regarding lubricants in the window channel itself for ease of sliding them open and closed. What have you found that works best? I'm looking for suggestions.

Many thanks,
Mark

Mary Kate Liquid Rollers... and flush the track with plenty of fresh water. Also spray a vinegar/water mix into the track to help dissolve the dried salt.

Second for Mary Kate Liquid Rollers. Works great!
We’ve also found it important to push the window latch is completely closed before trying to open it.

What about any dry lube, like McLube or any PTFE dry lube?

RT gave me regular WD-40 spray bottle for keeping the window tracks clean allowing windows to slide back and forth smoothly. Works just fine for me. 😀

Thanks everyone. I'd considered WD40 and may give that a shot first. But I also think I will buy some Mary Kate as well.

Cheers,
Mark

Another vote for Liquid Rollers.

WOW!! Went ahead and tried the Liquid Rollers and what a difference. Picked up a can at West Marine and couldn't be happier with the results.

Thanks everyone!

Mark,
Remember to reapply the liquid rollers as needed. We hit our window tracks about once every two weeks of cruising but your mileage may vary. One can should last you several seasons.

Our starboard window is stuck closed! Any suggestions on how to get it unstuck so we can clean out the track and then apply the liquid rollers? We are new to RT and keep running into challenges that we need the experienced advice of everyone to solve! Thanks everyone! We love Tugnuts !.... Michellle

There is a 6” or so long piece of channel plastic that sometimes becomes dislodged and jams the window. I found this on the outside of one of my windows which wouldn’t open. I just left it off and did not figure out how to replace it. Other than that, make sure you have flushed out all the salt. I used a pretty strong mix of Salt-Away on a few windows to get them free.

Cheers,
Mark

Also try pushing it closed further first then pull back open. Sometimes they stick with the latch hung up. Pushing closed first may free the latch.
