One of my boat's toolkit items is Gorilla glue (water proof). It came in very handy yesterday when the plastic frame that holds the rubber wiper blade to clear the helm window reached a fatigue or brittle state and snapped. This meant close to zero visibility in wet and spray conditions.

At first I was at a loss... I guess I could swap blades from an undamaged blade to gain visibility for the helm... but thought of the Gorilla waterproof glue which could fix the issue.

Sure enough, the Gorilla glue did the job along with me adding a small plastic reinforcement to avoid further breakage.

If you don't have Gorilla water proof (or similar product) onboard my advice is to go out and get it. It could save you in unexpected circumstances. 🙂

Just wanted to pass along some further info concerning the wipers...

The wiper arms and the serrated spindle that holds the arms can get very corroded over time. So much so, that removing the metal arms by prying open the release lever could prove very difficult. My advice is to at least once a year pull the arms and lubricate them and any other portion that seems to be getting cruddy. If this is left not done over an extended period of time you may have to saw the arms off and replace the whole wiper mechanism -- costing you several 100s dollars. If you doubt me, talk/discuss with Bob of Nellie Too who did have to saw off his wipers recently.
