Has anyone considered and/or built a solar water heater for their tug? We like to hang on anchor for days in secluded coves and would prefer not to have to run the main engine just to have a warm shower before bed.

thanks,
Brendan

What about the solar showers they sell for camping? Just a black bag that you can lay out in the sun to soak up the heat. They work great

We regularly use a solar shower bag when not on shore power. We set the bag on the roof next to the head hatch and feed the shower tube and nozzle through the hatch and then shower as normal in the wet head.

Another endorsement for solar shower bags. We carried two and could use them anywhere on the boat. Cockpit, galley, shower. Well worth the modest investment.

Bruce are you cruising in a Submarine? SSBN 658 Marianano G 😀 :

Hey Brian - yep. We had unlimited hot water. No submarine showers on that boat. But, until Fluid Motion comes up with a nuclear option those shower bags will continue to come in handy. 😉

You have to use the microwave for the solar shower in a submarine :😉

No microwave, but the nuclear reactor did a decent job.
