Does anyone use the Garmin setup feature to offset the difference from the bottom of the keel to the transducer placement in order to read the depth below your keel?

I'm curious what those with the R25 might use for that setting.

Thanks,
Steve

A setting of about +02.0 ft would be close enough. However, I like to know the real water depth so I have set -01.0 ft. This works well as long as you know the depth that the boat draws, about 2.5 to 3.0 ft

Two schools of thought. I like to read the actual water I have under the boat. I find it just as easy to add 2.5 feet to my reading if I need to know the water depth, rather than subtracting 2.5 feet to see if I can float...Grins. Not so critical up here in the PNW, but along the Texas Gulf Coast, the bay depth is 6 to 8 feet. The bottom is mostly soft and forgiving though.

I use the same approach as Herb does. I like to know depth under the keel.

Same. I also set a depth alarm.

I use the same approach as Herb. I am much more interested in knowing the depth of the water under the keel. I also use the depth alarm feature which I have set to 2.5 feet.

I prefer to know the depth of the water and keep in mind that I draw 26 inches. I have my depth alarm set for 4 feet. This way when it goes off I can decide what to do in enough time. Everyone has their preferences though. For me it may be a carryover from flying. I always knew how high above sea level I was and then and then deducted the height of terrain to determine distance above ground. My math was good and as you can see I am still here!

That's very good... "...I am still here!" ... above ground.
