Good Morning:

We are going to remove the Force10 propane stove and replace it with an induction cooktop. I have some skill with woodwork but would prefer professional help with building the cabinet.

Does anyone have recommendations on a source for cabinets. Also, what is the wood, trim, stain, etc. that Ranger Tugs used on our 2018 R29-S?

Thanks!

Mike

Hi Mike:

We are only a few weeks away from delivery of our new R29CB. I can't answer your question, but I was hoping you could expand on your reason for replacing the cooktop?

Very interested to hear your thought process!

Thank you.

Bryan and Julie:

My wife and I have had Tingira since 2018 and conducted a few 60+ day cruises on her, all the while taking notes on what we liked and didn't like.

High on the dislike list was the Force10 propane stove for the following reasons:

* It emits LOTS of heat into the cabin.
* It smells.
* Never used the oven.
* We used our on-the-rail BBQ more than the cooktop.
* We were carrying propane bottles that were rusting away.
* The propane locker took up lots of space on the swim platform that could be better utilized.

After lots of research on how other cruisers do it, we bought a Duxtop induction cooktop and LOVED it. Now we want to get rid of the stove and better utilize the available space.

Mike:

Thanks for your reply. Very much appreciated. Here's my uninformed question: Does the propane also heat the water when you're on the hook?

I'm curious because it looks like you've eliminated propane from the boat? (which would free up a LOT of space in the aft locker for sure!)

And are you planning on complete removal of the stove and oven? (again, pardon my ignorance if they are a single, unified unit)

I am a very proficient woodworked myself, Ranger says it's teak, but real teak is CRAZY hard to come by (legally) so it's likely some sort of "teak" substitute (I'm really not sure where they source their wood). I'm sure they can tell you where it's from and definitely tell you what product(s) they use for the finish. I will be asking for that info myself so I can create add-ons for myself as time goes by.

Mike,
So does this mean to use your new electric cooktop you either have to be on shore power or have the generator running?
That wouldn’t work for us at all - no generator and 60% plus of our nights on the hook or at docks without electricity.

On our boat, the propane is only for the stove. Heating water is done off the engines or the water heater which requires electric.

Current plans are to remove the Force10 which is one unit with a stove and cooktop.

I believe our current setup - generator and batteries - should allow us to use the induction cooktop while anchored.
