We're actively looking for a 25'. There's a nice looking new 2010 in Florida, original size cockpit. Or, a dealer wishes to have a new SC built for us. What's the difference in a sport cockpit? Pros, cons? It's just my wife and I, we're not fishermen..
Comments please.. Difference in engine noise?

The biggest difference is the size of the cabin. Do you want more room (volume, counter space, storage) inside, or in the cockpit? We had an R-25 for 3 years and loved it. Engine noise was not an issue. The R-25's are now "classic" (i.e. no longer in production), but available. If you want a new boat, the cabin vs. cockpit question can be answered by an R-27, which gives you both, or R-25 SC (or the R-25 in FL).

In any case, you can't go wrong.

Cheers

Ours is a 25 Classic... We would not want to downsize the cabin, especially in rainy/bad weather... With canvas enclosing the cockpit we have the best of both worlds, full size 25 cabin and with the door open we have a florida room in the cockpit...
As was pointed out the 27 solves both problems... But there are good deals to be had on used 25 Classics...
Somewhere there was a 25 Classic 08 model that was brand new, did that sell?

If we were rabid fishermen, then the SC would be the choice...
Engine noise in the 25 Classic is just not an issue for us...
I like the 27 but not enough to take a big $$ hit to trade up...

Ahhh yes, my buddy Ken...
I sea trialed that boat in the spring 09 - or rather I tried...
Called Ken on Wednesday and said I would be over to Manitowoc on Saturday morning to look at the boat and if I liked it could we take a sea trial... He said come over anytime as they are always there...
Saturday I Put the wife in the plane, flew up to Traverse City to pick up a friend... Then flew across the lake to Manitowoc... Rented a car and drive to the marina... Got there at 10AM... Boat office was locked... There was a lady washing boats... Talked to her... She called Ken... He said he was golfing but I was free to look around and that the cleaning lady had the keys to all of the boats... He would call me back on Monday... We looked at all the boats - really liked the PDQ 44... Flew back home... So $300 in av gas and $38 in car rental later, plus lunch, I crossed Ken off my christmas card list...
Ken called me back - A year later!

The above boat is not a good deal. It is as $%)*#$%% amazing deal!!! I spotted that boat on ebay. A fully loaded R25 that is just broken in for in the $90s with canvas, trailer, generator and likely AC! And, it still hasn't sold yet... What's wrong with people?
