Subject: Stabilizing the R-21EC's navigator removable seat
The removable nav seat is to allow access to the sink and stove. When the seat is in place 4 starboard feet provide clearance over the the sink and stove so that the seat does not rest on either. So far this is AOK. However, I've found on our R-21EC and others I've inspected, the the seat will move about when sitting on it which I and others find annoying. It gives you the feeling the seat is loose and maybe will fail in some manner.
I examined the motion the seat makes and found that the left forward starboard foot does not fit tightly up to the fiddle just in front of the sink's edge. There's enough of a gap to make the seat move and slide about on its 4 feet.
Although not a total solution, but so far it seems a pretty good one, is to remove the left forward foot and move it forward toward the lip of the seat about 1/2 inch. Now this foot fits snugly up to the fiddle whereas before there was a gap contributing to the seat's sloppy motion. Sitting on the seat now I find absolutely no sliding motion at all. 😀
I've sat on the seat after doing the above and find it's a huge improvement. There's still some movement but only when standing and trying to forcibly move the seat cushion with my hands, and even then, it's minimal to non existent.
So for me, this turned out to be a very simple fix for the annoying sloppy nav seat. 🙂
