I used Star Tron Enzyme concentrated diesel additive (part # 93132) in my R31 for five years and it seemed to work well. I would top up the fuel tank with diesel and additive before every Winter, at the first Spring fillup, and during summer whenever I fueled up at less active marinas (i.e. in the Broughtons) where fuel might sit in their tanks for longer times.

In my new R41 it was recommended to use Stanadyne (part # 38566), which I was prepared to do until I did a cost comparison.

Star Tron 32 oz bottle costs $31.95 on Amazon and treats up to 1024 gallons.
- that's 31.95 / 1024 = 0.00312 $/gal of diesel, or $9.36 per 300 gallon fillup.

Stanadyne qty 2, 1/2 gallon jugs (1 gallon total) costs $57.50 and treats up to 480 gallons
- thats 57.50 / 500 = 0.11979 $/gal of diesel, or $34.50 per 300 gallon fillup.

If my math is right, that's Star Tron $9.36 vs. Stanadyne $34.50 per fillup.

I will be willing to use Stanadyne if it is better in some way. Does anyone know if Stanadyne is better than Star Tron for the Volvo Penta diesel engines?

Thanks

Don't have experience with Star Tron, but have used Stanadyne Performance Formula for 21 years in my Cummins pickup, 17 summers and 6300 hours in my VP KAD44P boat engine, and 5 summers and 3400 hours in my present Cummins boat engine. VP wizard mechanic recommended it for my boat in 1999. Seems like a small percentage of fuel cost - would not have to help much to be worth it.

To further complicate this thread I was told by a VPenta mech to use Pri D. Any smart folks out there have more insights or are all of these basically the same?
