Start Issue on R21EC

I'm sure most of you would have figured this out sooner than I did, but wanted to share this information in case someone else runs into a similar problem. We were out on the lake having a great afternoon, but when it came time to head for home, the boat wouldn't start. The shrill noise sounded, but no start. After reading about the perils of Lois H, I figured we had a bad switch, solenoid, or starter. Turns out there is a white wire that clips onto the solenoid via a spade connector. Tightened the connection and she starts great.

I had a problem with identical symptoms, but an apparently different solution. I post here for comments from others with more experience in case my "solution" was merely some kind of coincidence. (My boat is less than one week old.) I recalled a comment on this site about some kind of electronic "lockout" on the shift lever, which prevented starting unless the lever was exactly in the center of the neutral position. I "jiggled" my shift lever to center it, and then the boat started normally. I thought that this lockout might be a "feature" only on the larger Yanmar engines, but it appears to be present in the 3YM30. Or do I have a different problem?

Nope, it has to be in the center to start. What you did to resolve it was exactly correct.
