Start Your (Boat) Engines

Exactly,
See you ( from a safe distance) on the water folks

I took the boat out for a short romp this morning, and it was spectacular! Chilly, but otherwise perfect weather, light breeze from the north, and three other boats out in the river. We're not completely over the pandemic yet, but we're making progress.

PNW waters are open now
Looking fwd to getting off land to breath clean air
Daisy will be anchored at Sucia the next few days
Give a call on the radio if you’re also up there

We are out and about also in Puget Sound. Marinas seem to be happy to see us. Anthony's Restaurant is doing a downsize take out menu - yummm! Wind is a bit dicey with the big tides, but the weather is warm and sunny. We tried to stop at Blake Island this morning but there is a float line across the marina just inside the entrance. Guess they didn't get the memo. Swantown - Olympia - has one lane for launching, but is open. Spent last night at Des Moines. We are currently sitting at the dock in Edmonds.

Made a quick trip with the wife and grandkids from Anacortes to James Island today. The tidal currents were really strong but made it safely onto and off the dock. What a beautiful day! Mount Baker was showing all it's glory.

We seem to have done well up here in BC but are all anxious not to turn back the clock, waste all that effort and cost more lives. The government has outlined a plan for easing in stages depending on the numbers as we progress. Seems to be really science driven. Take a look at the comparison curves. Is there one available for Washington State vs the USA as a whole?

We do have real concerns that the islands and small communities are at real risk so visits are being discouraged. We don't have a border opening on our radar for a long while yet. It's probably better if we all play in our own area for a while as different Provinces and States are pursuing different approaches. Inter-provincial travel is discouraged. It will be best to wait for the results. Though we love visiting the San Juans and all of you wonderful people we'll probably stay local for a while.

Thanks for the B.C. boating link
Good information
I did not know that B.C. had not closed their waters for resident boating. Our WA team decided to close our waters for recreational use
until last Tuesday, and the requirements for safe boating listed for Wa are pretty identical to what had been in place all along (if my reading of the B.C. site is correct)
Maybe we could have stayed on the water during the nonessential travel ban ,
but our State is following the science and erring on the caution side for public safety
I’m glad we did hit a pause button
And so glad to be back on the water
Of the hundreds of boats around Sucia this weekend you could see that 98%+ are being very responsible and careful.
The few raft ups probably weren’t thinking how that would look to the public on 5 o’clock news
I know we can get out there the right way.

B.C. has done an excellent job limiting the outbreak. I read the link and nearly everything done was done in the U.S. in most states. I wonder why we have had so many more cases per capita. ? poor compliance. In our town, we have good compliance with stay at home orders, social distancing and wearing masks. I estimate that when one of us goes to the grocery store 90% of people are wearing a mask.

I am disappointed that it looks unlikely the border will be open to recreational boaters from the U.S. We find Canadians to be delightful. Great boating waters as well. We will just enjoy the San Juans!

Does anyone know if Cap Sante Marina in Anacortes or Friday Harbor Marina are open for guest moorage?

Thanks for the info! I did not know that Waggoner's was doing this.
