Hello all,

We are new to the forum so hopefully this is not too obvious or has been addressed elsewhere. At any rate, we took delivery of our new Cutwater 30 December last year. We are still learning about it. We spend a good bit of time operating at displacement speed, but when we need to get home or need exercise the engine, we find that it is much more difficult to turn to starboard than port (no noticeable difference at low speed). I was told this is attributed to prop rotation, but given how hard it is to turn to starboard, I thought I would put it out there and confirm that others experience this as well versus it being a power steering issue.

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

This is true. Prop wash against the rudder does make it harder to turn to starboard.

Thanks for the confirmation Kip.

I also heard this could be due to an offset rudder (the rudder being offset so you have access to the nut on the prop). On my 2015 Cutwater 26, I notice little to no effort required to steer her to port, but I have to spin the wheel many times to steer her to starboard, at just about any speed. Anyone else notice that or heard that reasoning?

Lock out your Garmin pump by closing the three screws on it, and see if it still does it. Likely a bad pump. You can see several threads on this site regarding that. Send me a pm with your phone number and I'll call you with more info.
