The last two times we have anchored I used a stern line to shore. I only have 100 feet of old 1/2 anchor line and added a couple of my tie up lines. We are heading out this weekend and would like a good setup. 400-500 feet?
I have read that most are using Poly line and a hose reel? I find 3/8 poly line in various configurations and huge price difference. I read a few people have the fancy stainless reel on the back rail but a lot just use a hose reel. What type of hose real are you using?

We carry about 400 feet of yellow 3/8" poly line for a shore tie wound on an empty wire spool we were given at a Home Depot. When using the shore tie, we place the spool on a short stainless steel tube in the flag holder. We bolted a knob to the edge of the spool to make it easy to wind up the line back onto the spool. By doing a "level wind", a lot of line can be wound on a 12" diameter spool. When you buy a lot of line, it is usually cheaper if you buy a full spool or by the pound than if you buy it by the foot.

I have the SMI crab/shrimp pot winder that fits on a Scotty Downrigger mount. I bought an extra reel for stern tie line.

I purchased 400 feet of poly rope on a spool years ago and then found a stainless steel mounting kit at Fisheries I believe. It is two "T" clamps and a custom cut tube to install on the swim platform rail. It is important to (1) get floating rope like poly and not use anchor line to avoid getting rope tangled in prop and (2) having enough line (400 ft) to easily make roundtrip to shore.

Thanks for the feedback. I just picked up 300 feet of MFP line. I have 100 feet of an old anchor line that I can add to that if needed but so far the 100 has been enough although just a single run so the 300 should give me enough to do the loop to shore and back. Hope to pick up a hose reel tomorrow. We are pulling the boat on the 22nd of Sept so only have a couple more outings this year and may build a better reel for next year.

For our C-28 use 600 ft of 1/4” polypropylene on this reel mounted in the flag pole holder. Have been using it regularly for 7 years now with no issues. The 1/4” line seems plenty strong for our former R-25 and current C-28. Probably would go to 3/8” line if I had much bigger boat.
