Was't there an attachment with an explanation/walk thru for replacing the thruster shear pins posted on TUGNUTS at one time? I am summoning up the courage to replace the stern thruster pin and/or the fuse. I don't know which failed just before haul out.

My condolences... tough job...
Yeah, do a search, it has been chewed over a few times...

And some of us with a larger body frame needed to make some structural adjustments. First, removed the sink, then opened the doors and took off the white flooring cover. I didn't fit in the existing opening. To get my larger shoulders down into the "hole" I cut out part of the floor frame under the sink area. When done and cleaned up, the white cover went right back on with some flooring on the far right still gone. Will come up with a cover for that later, any ideas? Consider this process the tuition to your next boating diploma.

My rear thruster motor had to be removed recently (motor shorted). I have the older R25 design. I watched Dominic from Wefing remove the motor while at my marina (dry storage). I could never have been able to remove it the manner he used but it took him only about an hour and required no removal to clear the path. I have many years and injuries on Dominic. However, I do believe that I could remove the motor using the same path (up over rudder and Y valve) if I were to first perform one of the mods I have seen previously on this website. Someone had cut the fiberglass section between the 2 wood doors under the rear seat/cooler. They then used a small strip of teak to extend the width of one of the existing doors. The photos made the job look good and I think this would make the thruster removal easier. You would then only have to turn your rudder full to left (rudeer ram would stroke to right) and pull a couple of hoses over out of the way. You can easily see the shear pin location once the motor is removed.

Great thread GulfSailor. If you have an earlier model R-25 it will be different though. There are posts for those too.
