Stern Thruster Troubleshooting

Our 2015 R31-CB stern thruster only works to PORT. It does not function to STARBOARD with any of the thruster switches (helm, bridge or remote). I recently replaced the helm switch but no change....any ideas where to start troubleshooting this problem?

Hi Jeffrey,

The issue may be with the solenoid and associated circuitry at the stern thruster. Not sure if you're able to diagnose it yourself, but any competent electrical shops that works on motors should be able to help. These thrusters aren't much more complicated than automotive starter motors that run in both directions. You'll have to remove the thruster though to do that. It's easily done though, by removing the thruster at the two Allen bolts that hold it to the gear leg mount. This can be done in the water if necessary. Hope this helps.
