Stern thruster

2008 ranger 25 with side power sp30s2i stern thruster. With the joy stick control off started pulsing on and off .when the joystick was turned on the thruster ran but it still pulsed with the joystick in neutral position. It was suggested that the solenoid was stuck. We’re is the solenoid located ?

Pretty sure the solenoid is located at the thruster. For the stern thruster, it is inside the enclosed housing. Based on the gymnastics of taking it out and opening the housing, I would do a little more investigation at the joystick. If you remove the joystick and can unplug it (as I recall) you can jumper the plug to run the thruster. And you can test the joystick to see if it causing the problem. This is a lot easier to do.

There are some Imtra documents on troubleshooting here on Tugnuts. I'll have to look around to see if I can find them.

Does it fail in one direction all the time?

Sounds like it is the solenoid. They have a special "feature" called solenoid lock in.
See page 17.
There is also a paragraph on it in my manual that I will try to copy to my photo album.

Possible low voltage to thruster? Is your thruster battery fully charged? Might try load testing the battery just to be sure.
