Ok, we are looking at buying a RT31CB. Question: If you do not use the lower port side berth for storage, where do you store things? Where do you store life jackets, for instance?

C30 here so a little different, but we store things in the lazarettes, under navigator's seat, under the main berth, etc. PFDs in particular are always in the cabin for 2 of us, with extras in the lazarettes (and one more that has autoinflate hung up in the hanging locker).

Some folks remove the wine fridge or add a Thule/Yakima box (I often consider the latter)

As long as you downsize relentlessly and can remember what you stored where -- or better yet, log it, which I am not disciplined enough to do, so far -- there is quite a bit of hidden storage.

We hang the pfds on the hangar in the lower bunk and a few extras in the storage area under the forward bedroom but storage is indeed a challenge. The locker in front of the stove is also a good extra space.

There is a lot of space in the lazarettes.

Right now, in the starboard cockpit laz we have dinghy oars, a large tool bag and socket set, anchor bridle, spare prop in box, spare anchor, dinghy inflation kit, and an electric pot puller. It is not full; I will likely be able to fit a spares kit in. I can fit more in that laz than I can in the trunk of a small car.

In the port laz we have orange life jackets and a ton of empty space that we will probably use for

Also, there is a large storage shelf aft of the engine if you don’t have a genset.

Another thing you will learn about boating is that the boat has “modes”. Even if you’re using the berth for sleeping, you might roll up the bedding and use it partially for storage during the day then make the bed again at night, with some of the stuff stored in the salon at night.

I was surprised that there is not nearly as much storage on the tug as on the sailboats I’ve owned. Still, we make do...
