We are leaving the boat in a covered storage facility for two months this winter. I want to try to keep the interior dry and mildew free. I have been looking at https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009 ... _qh_dp_hza. Has any one used this ? What do boat owners storing in Florida use?

I have one and it works great

I have the calframo unit as well and run it in the V birth, but it's tough to tell if it is doing much. I also run a Tisot 20 pint conventional dehumidifier that sits on the galley counter and drains into the sink. $179 on AMZ. I am absolutely certain it works well based on the lower relative humidity inside the cabin. It will use more power than the Calframo, but once mildew takes hold in a boat, I'd pay any price to get it out!

As mentioned......mildew and mold are #1 enemy. Whenever I use dehumidifying equipment I also use nosGUARD SG packets from StarBrite. They are chlorine dioxide emitting bags that are very effective at combating mildew and other odors. They do not cover up with fragrance.......They attack the source. There are fast release for existing odor and slow release for longer term prevention........

Brian, you won’t need the heater in FL. Here’s what we use. $89 on Amazon, works well.

LONOVE Dehumidifiers - Upgraded 5000 Cubic Feet (450 Sq ft) Dehumidifiers for Home Basements Room Bedroom Bathroom Closet RV, 2000ml (68oz) Quiet Auto-off Large Dehumidifiers with Drain Hose

A bigger challenge is keeping mildew from growing on the vinyl on the cockpit seats.

What is the length of the drain hose? We will have the boat stored in a RV covered storage facility in Cape Coral with 30 amp service. I thought I would run a hose either to the hull drain plug. Where do you drain the water bilge or sink? The unit I saw Amazon is 10"X10"X12" is this the unit you purchased?

Brian,

The unit comes with a clear plastic hose that I would estimate to be about 3 feet long. You could certainly pick up a longer hose at home depot. I have the unit sitting on the galley counter next to the sink (fits just fine) with the hose draining into the sink. While I haven’t tried it, I would imagine it would fit fine in the head, draining into the sink or shower sump.

Our boat is kept on a lift on shore power, water drains directly into the canal.

Thank you Gordon the Humidifier is on order!

Cape Coral, we are leaving the boat there during the Holidays and January. Unfortunately the boat is not going to make it to Cape Coral by water. Crazy weather has held up our progress. Gulf Shores AL. is our ending destination this fall. The boat will be trailered the rest of the way. https://park720.com/
