I would not cruise at 30MPH with it on, but I don’t think it would hurt. The poles are held in place by tightening the shade. I really can’t see them coming out, unless the shade is really loose.Nickc":3jgea0vd said:tks for help, and yes i have zipper on my bimini...
also in the movie i saw -- shows 2, pieces for the shade.. 1 is for the top --I assume you use other to attach on side or back as needed?
also I would be nice to cruise with it while underway (at say 15- 20kts)..Can it take the wind load while underway, do rear support pole stay in place securely?

Really helps drop the temperature in the cockpit. The top panel is fine underway, the poles are super sturdy and aren't going anywhere. I wouldn't travel with the drop down shade installed. The drop down fits nicely at the rear and the side. We love it!

Here is the 2021 factory sunshade design. It zippers into the bimini. We really like it.Brian98133":20nrp4pr said:FlagShip":20nrp4pr said:We just added the sunshade on our R29 after agonizing what to choose for the past 3 years, should be somewhat similar to the R23 version. If these pics were taken at Poulsbo this last Sunday... the RT that you can (barely) see through the shade in the last photo would be mine! 😀 Saw you (FlagShip) there, but had out-of-town guests with us so I didn't want to bore them with me geeking-out over such a beautiful boat. Otherwise I would have stopped to say "HI" 😀
Side note: After leaving Poulsbo, we headed back to Everett and encountered MUCH more wind than my Windy App said we'd have!! Easily sustained 15Kts, going against current. Developed 4-5' head-on seas that beat us up pretty badly. Gotta give credit where due... our little RT did fantastic! Although we were pretty exhausted after battling those seas for almost 3 hours! 😱
Regarding the shade: The RT site lists the sunshade, but there isn't a pic of it that I see. There was a pic on the old site (before upgrading the site this last year) that I remember... but the downside of the shade (as I remember from the pic) is that one would have to remove the existing aft canvas (for the R23), as the sunshade goes from the cabin roof to the sunshade poles aft. That was the reason I didn't buy it at that time. I was hoping for something that would simply zipper on to the existing canvas... not replace it.
I am lucky to have a friend that is a seamstress, so I've found a matching zipper for the canvas and am having her make a shade that will affix to 1-1/4" Sch 40 PVC pipe (fits nicely into the pole holders on the stern). What I hadn't thought of, until FlagShip's post, is an add'l side shade!
Looks like we need to supply more crab in exchange for a side shade! 😀
