We're thinking of launching in SW Florida and cruising Everglades and Keys in March and are looking for recommended launch sites (Marco, Everglades City . . . ) with availability of mechanics, security for tow vehicle and trailer. Will appreciate your suggestions.

I suggest Moss Marine at Fort Myers Beach.

Norb:

Here's another idea if you have a iPhone, iPad and can add an app. Takemefishing.org has a boat ramp app that we've found very useful. Once into their app you can do a satellite view to get a good look at the ramp to see if they have a dock to tie up to, parking lot, etc., plus you can use the app as a gps while driving to the site.

Your can also search the area on ActiveCaptain's Interactive Cruising Guidebook. I will show all sorts of marine facilities and include reviews and information sourced from local boaters.

Cheers,

Bruce

Apparently, there is not a lot of Everglades/Keys experience among Tugnuts. With only 3 responses from 180 hits we draw that conclusion. But thanks! "Interactive Cruising Guidebook" and takemefishing.org have been helpful. The suggested Ft. Myers marina is appreciated, too. But no ramp there.

norbhat, captd made a lengthy voyage on Lucky Fin and posted the whole trip at this link http://www.tugnuts.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=813&hilit=keys. There are others that have made many trips to Florida and the Keys and have posted various info also. You might want to try a Search for the info you need. Not all of these people have remained members of this forum and therefore would be unable to respond to your request.

Salty Sam's Marina in Ft. Myers Beach has a launch ramp that I used a couple of days ago. They will store your boat trailer - and I suppose your truck - in a secured yard across the street from the marina. They are a full service marina with mechanics.
