Hi there,

When I did my haul-out early this summer on my 2017 R23, I discovered that the supports that attach to the stern of the boat are failing. My friend Dennis's boat has the same problem.

Please advise how to best fix this issue.

Thank you!

We had this same problem on our 2018 R23 when we had it hauled out this year. Discovered that the struts were not grounded when the boat was built so we had that done and put zincs on the struts. This should solve the issue.

Make sure the strut zincs actually are fully immersed in the water when boat at slip and tied up. With the boat 'unweighted' you might find the strut attachment to the transom is above the water level/line.

BTW... I had to do the same thing for my past R-25 Classic.

Hi Ric!

Another solution to your problem is to tie in the swim supports to the bonding system. You can unbolt the supports from the transom, run a wire with an eyelet to the bolt, and then resecure. The other side of the wire can be connected to any other bonded area, such as your trim tabs.

Thanks!

Timely topic! I just hauled out my R-23 and discovered a bunch of corrosion on the supports. Two of the screws had completely sheared off.

Drilled a hole in each trim tab and connected to the supports. Will keep an eye out for further issues.

I don't believe the trim tabs are bonded so attaching a bonding wire to them will achieve nothing. I also understand from RT that the trim tab manufacturer recommends for them not to be bonded; just place the round flat anodes to them and all done.
