We just purchased a 2009 25 SC. The engine is the 150 2.0L Cummins. We want to mount a kicker that will get us back to port and also for fishing. My question is will the swim platform hold a kicker even when trailering? And if so what h.p. do you recommend. And is there a recommended bracket?

Thanks, Les

I've had a Yamaha 9.9 high thrust(120 lbs) mounted on mine for three or four trips and I would not recommend it as a long term solution. I shored up the plastic step with aluminum angle stiffeners and this season have added a piece of 3/4in plywood spanning two of the step supports. It's still pretty shaky. The swim step mounts themselves aren't beefy enough. I'm debating whether to install a folding transom mounted bracket or to replace the swim step brackets with stronger ones.

The 9.9 high thrust is plenty of power for trolling and will get you hull speed in calm water/no headwind.

Bolting on to the transom would be a good idea also?

Ultimately the transom has to carry the load. The simpler the better so yes bolting it straight to the transom is a good idea. Depending on how you plan to control the OB it needs to be far enough back to steer it and to lift the foot out of the water when not running. The only off the shelf brackets that I'm aware of that hold the motor far enough off the transom are the folding variety. If you have access to a good aluminum or stainless fabricator you could get a straight bracket custom fit.

Thanks, I will come up with something. I would like to see one that's are ready been modified, it would give me a better starting point.
