Can a swim step be removed temporarily ?
I am thinking of purchasing a R29S or CB and moorage in our area is of course tight.
Smaller slips are available so I am thinking I could remove the swim step until the larger moorage is available.
Is that possible ?

If you were to remove the transom platform you would still have the mounting brackets which are attached to the hull. While not sticking out as much the gain would be only a few inches. Brackets are mounted thru hull and can not be removed unless you want to sink your boat.

I have seen removable transom platforms only on ski boats where the bracket goes with the platform

Hey there Terry,

The swim platforms are pretty permanent on our boats. They are fixed mounted to the stern. I had seen one custom install where they made an aluminum folding platform that was pretty nice. Cost a lot of money from what I heard and can't say that the difference in the price at the marina would have made sense in the long term to make any adjustments. Feel free to call me and we can discuss some different ideas.

Thank you,

I've seen boats with hinged swim steps and bowsprits for the purpose of fitting within a slips permitted length.

I had my R-29 in a smaller slip at Port of Everett, and they allowed it because with the bow and stern thrusters I could get in and out of the slip with no risk of backing into the boat across the fairway from me. Perhaps a discussion with the harbor master at your marina would be helpful.

Is that the same with the 21EC, SP can't be removed?

Thanks for the quick response.
Just thought I would check.
Andrew - looking forward to seeing you and checking out the tugs at the Rendezvous in September.

If there's a will, there's a way. But, R-21EC swim platforms are also built to stay.
Bill - R-21EC
