UPDATE TO TO TABLE TOP: Hello- Just spent seven GLORIOUS days in the San Juans aboard Nemo, a 21 EC. Sure enough, the roomy cockpit was where we spent most of our time closely connected to nature whether stretched out reading or enjoying the views or visiting and eating. Because we love the cockpit so much and do not want to give up that space we come back from every trip thinking about mods to make the boat live bigger than it is. We love the large table and the particular mount we have makes it super useful for either eating with someone else at the back seating or reading charts from the engine box. However, after this trip, we realized it needs two things we left out: Some aluminum supports underneath to prevent bending and some rails on the sides to prevent things sliding off. Husbands project this week. The boat is just terrific and we hope to add a hardtop this year with drop down side curtains (bug netting and full privacy for extended cruising. We also determined that two grandchildren can sleep aboard as the walk space around the engine compartment makes for a perfectly cozy bed area with a backpackers mattress and sleeping bag. Hooray- solves the grandkids dilemma of whether we need a bigger boat- nope!!!! The large cockpit is what we want for this stage in life and so we are going to make this boat work for the next ten years. After that, we will probably go to a 25SC for extended cruising because we might need the cabin space though it will be awful to lose the great cockpit. What they really need to do is figure out a way to add those bump out seats, like they have on the 23 to the 25SC for those of us who want an inboard diesel.
