Yes, it could snap. I would use De Bond. It comes in a little spray can. Along with some wooden shims, to use as wedges. Various pieces of wood, some razor blades (maybe a long bladed knife) and a whole lot of patients. Listen for that wood splintering sound and stop if you here it. I may also give one of those cutting tools with the thin wire and the 2 handles a shot. I used one once to remove a windlass that was on with 5200 and 4 big bolts. The bolts came out, but the windlass would not budge. It's all a matter of how hard it's secured down. My floor is fine and I hope it stays that way!
