Question. We just got a RT 29 and I do not have a manual for the Tecma Toilet. I looked on-line and the display we have is not shown on the Thetford Marine site. We have the horizontal switch with the add water and the flush but also an indicator on the bottom right which is green. Is this the holding tank level indicator? Does someone have a manual for it.

Next question. I have my overboard valve zapped shut which is the law. My question is where is the overboard pumpout switch located so I make sure I don't operate it with a closed valve?

Thanks

Mine is a 2012, so may be different, but on mine the pump switch is on the main panel going into the mid berth (AKA The Cave). The indicator in the lower right is the tank level indicator. It changes from green to yellow, then red as the holding tank gets full. Mine also has a button in the lower left corner of the panel that is pressed and held to lock out the flush function. I've never used it, but I guess you would do that if your holding tank is full, until you can get to a pump-out location.

It is a good idea to not trust those light indicators, they often don't work well on the older models. Another thing is to rinse the tank very well then flush the macerator side. There is quite a bit of affluent that gets trapped in those lines that should be cleaned out. I would not do it in the harbor but your not polluting by flushing that small amount. But it will keep your system much fresher.

Glad this was brought up. The indicators on our Techma do NOT work. I discovered this the hard way and things were pretty grim for a bit. We called it a poopocalypse or crapageddon at the time.

We put a little digital counter on the wall in the head and just count flushes. As long as you remember to do this every time, you should be good. And this is way more reliable.

According to the manual, a full, solid waste flush only takes .6 gallons. If you have a 40 gallon poop tank, you know when it is getting time to pump out. We always use the rule of thirds (as we do with fuel on the boat). When we get over 40 flushes into the tank (<24 gallons) we start hunting for a pump out or an excuse to go offshore.

As for the advice on flushing the macerator, if you are offshore, once you have pumped out, just flush the toilet like mad (you will see that you can manually fill it) and pump it out.

Finally, what no one likes to talk about is the poop stain of shame. When you pump out offshore a bunch of stuff sticks to the hull next to the outlet for the macerator. Use a hose or a deck brush to clean it off before showing yourself in a marina.

Unpleasant, but necessary subject!

Thanks everyone. We did find the manual on-line of the function of the Tecma Toilet display and now understand the operation. We also found the maserator switch located on the helm.
