We are cruising the British Virgin Islands for a week on a sail catamaran. No Rangers in sight! Obviously they need to get their act together down here.

Sounds like something I'd like to do.... Sounds glorious... Enjoy yourself. Hmmm...

Rangerless down there!... Some areas are simply slow in acknowledging a good deal.

Photos please... when you return. 🙂

Only going to happen if you're holding the drink high to make a toast!

This may go under the category of: the other man's grass is always the dark side...

We were sailors for a lot of years. I frequently heard other sailors refer to any powerboat as "the dark side"... even when I pointed out their sailboat had an aux motor. 😉 If motorboats are, indeed, "the dark side," would that make that trip to the BVIs and a sailing cat "the light side"??

I still like to go sailing. These days, it is always on OPB (Other People's Boats). Last year, I took my wife (who is a great jib trimmer and helmsperson, btw) by an interesting larger motorsailor that was in need of a new home. She took one look at it and said, "You can do that with your next wife."

But, I think I could convince her to do a week or two in the BVIs.

Have fun - post some photos!

Best wishes,
Jim B.

I would love to sail there myself, but don't know how to sail yet. It sounds like lots of fun! Enjoy 😀

The grey scale runs both ways. For 70 years I swore at stinkpots, "NOW I ARE ONE."

Anne: Pat and I taught sailing for many years. Your lessons will start any time you can scrounge up a boat.

We just got back from our Moorings cruise of the BVI out of Tortola. We and two other couples - long time friends - chartered the 46 sailing cat. We had a glorious time and some great sailing weather to push the big cat to 10 kts! She had twin Yanmars which made me happy too. The place is an amazing cruising ground and the scenery - above and below the water - is overwhelmingly beautiful. We will go again.

By the way, in the planning phase the guys were over-ruled (food preparation issues, ha) and we chartered a "crewed" vessel. That's the way to go for us...didn't have to worry about anything. Each couple had their own cabin and head. Our Capt and mate really took care of us, suggested and planned overnights with our involvement, prepared wonderful meals and snacks and let us use an abundance of water toys.

Now we're back home getting our boat spiffy for the season and looking forward to the Ranger Tugs Pocket Yacht Rendezvous which starts May 31!

OK, just a crazy thought. Has anyone looked into shipping a Ranger Tug to the BVI. We've done a bareboat charter from Tortola and cruised the islands for a week. We chartered a Lagoon 44 with one other couple and it was great. That was the last straw, we knew we need a bigger boat to take trips on around Florida. The Key West 17 went up for sale and we bought Gratitude. Looking back, what a perfect place to cruise our tug for a month or longer. With St Thomas, St John, and Anegada so close, our tugs would be perfect for that cruising area.

Funny. We just got back from BVI's . We were there 5/5-5/17. Moorings as well. 41 Beneteau. Some good sailing days.. A few days where the Drake was a like a sheet of glass and the water was so clear you could see 75 ft to bottom . One night of bad storms. We talked about what it would be like to have our R25 there. I have seen some people come over from the USVI in there 29 trawler and there are some that come from Puerto Rico in there 24 ft run a bouts and small cruisers (bay liner etc).

I even wore my Ranger Tugs hat !!!!

43' sailing Cat in February 2009

47' motor Cat in February 2012

Awesome vacation both times!!!! Make sure you go to Cow Wreck Beach on Anegada.

The BVIs are a great place to charter and for sailing, I also highly recommend the Windward Islands. But if you want the tropical experience - warmth, sunny, blue skies, crystal clear water for snorkeling, beautiful sandy beaches - and do it on your own Ranger, there's always the Bahamas.

Believe me, I was thinking of that as we were sailing around. I am definitely looking into it.
