Hi Gang.

Lots of information here and we are so happy to see the 'following' that the Ranger Tugs have accrued.

Can we ask a couple of questions to other 21' Ranger Tug owners?

What have you guys found to be a good tender for use with the 21 footers? We have a dog and want to take the tender with us on some of our expeditions.

Our tug will live in the salt chuck for about six months of the year, on a buoy. There are no wharfs, etc here. So our tender will live on the beach and we will access our Tug from the shore.

We have a new 21EC on order for delivery to Kingston, Ontario in April. The Thousand Islands will be a perfect home for the 21EC.
Regarding the discussion on autopilots, has anybody tried a Raymarine wheel sail autopilot mounted behind the steering wheel. It seems to be a lot less expensive than the Raymarine Sport

There are going to be a lot more 21ec's in Ontario once they see them on the water. We will be at the Ranger "Gathering" this summer at Little Current. One 21ec will be there most of the summer and we will be there from August 1 to at least labour day. Mine is at the dealer now and I hope to get it in the driveway in a week so I can "fix" it up with all the needed stuff. Can't wait just wish the weather was warmer!!!

What is a reasonable cost for the selling dealer (new boat) to price bottom painting at? I appreciate we may do it ourselves but thinking it would be nice to have it done professionally out of the gates.

Is this something that a new dealer can or should absorb in the selling cost or is there just not enough margin to expect this?

We just bought a new Cutwater 28 and got the dealer to throw in bottom painting. We were told the retail was a couple thousand dollars for bottom paint so I don't know what kind of deal you got on your boat so not sure what kind of margins there are. Just ask. They can always say no.

We tow a 7ft. Livingston when we want a dinghy on the cruise.
Haven't added an outboard yet, rowing works fine so far. It is a bit
busy with two people aboard, can imagine anything other than a
small breed would make it a challenge.
I imagine an 8 ft. or even a 10 would tow in a similar fashion.

Hello Andrew, did you get any answers regarding autopilot to the 21 EC. I own one in Norway, and need to get an autopilot installed.

I tow a classic Philip Rhodes design 1958 Grumman aluminum 8.5 ft dinghy behind my 21 when I have need for a dinghy. I too am looking for an autopilot that will adapt to the 21 now that the Raymarine unit that others have used is no longer in production.

If you feel like taking on a building project a very slick solution is the PT 11 nesting dinghy. The front half literally stores in the aft half. It makes a package about 4 by 6 feet so will usuall stow on the swim step but could be towed when assembled. This is a kit from Port Townsend WA and is very well concieved. Along the lines of a "nesting" dinghy that separates into TWO HALVES, here is a similar option to the PT 11...except simple to build and MUCH less expensive. It is called the Nesting Dinghy 11 available through Bateau.com based in Vero Beach, FL.
