Last summer we did the 1,900 mile cruise up the Salish Sea through Washington State, British Columbia and into Southeast Alaska with Ken and Pauline on Shipperly, their Cutwater 28. Previously, Rich and Cheryl had taken ROAM, their Ranger 25, Mac and Linda on Island Ranger, a Ranger 25, Herb and Willie on their Ranger 31, Anne on her Ranger 29 and other Tugnuts that we have not met, have done this great adventure.

Like when we did the Great Loop in our Ranger 29, we were looking for a burgee to fly to show that we were doing this cruise or had completed it. Not finding one, we designed one and sold quite a few through the cruisers network. If this calls you, now you can find the Inside Passage Burgee on Amazon. Here is the link:

Thanks for putting the notice out! These are nice, well-made burgees. I bought one and flew it on my Inside Passage trip last summer too 🙂.

A great trip deserves a great burgee!

That's a nice edition for sure for those that have made the trip. 🙂

Another great cruising season is in its last chapter and that includes the cruisers that did the Inside Passage from Puget Sound and the Salish Sea through British Columbia to Southeast Alaska. If you have done that amazing cruise or are planning on doing it and you want a distinctive burgee that communicates your accomplishment, our Inside Passage Burgee is for you.

This burgee uses a swallow tail shape, the top half are elements from the Alaska state flag and the bottom half is from the provincial flag of British Columbia, the colors include those from the Washington state flag and both the U.S. and Canadian flags. Digitally dyed, reads both sides and very durable because they are professionally made.

Or, use the search words Inside Passage Burgee.

Hmmmm. Have not heard from Mac and Linda on Island Ranger for some time now..... 🙁 They did have the R-27 last time I saw them. Mac gave me my 2-days of training for my R25 Classic back in 2009.

Thanks John and Laurie! We actually looked all over Alaska for one of these this year to no avail. So we just bought one of yours instead!

A couple of interesting Inside Passage tidbits... we saw Basecamp Anne (Anne Cox) in Ketchikan on our way home this year and we “sort of” saw Willie’s Tug in Canada on the way home as well (well...we actually we only saw the Willie’s Tug AIS tag on the Garmin in the fog as we could not see a thing out the window!) The boat appears to be still named Willie’s Tug but is no longer owned by Herb and Willie. Our partner boat contacted them to make our navigation intentions clear but otherwise we did not speak as I was busy navigating in the fog and trying to determine if indeed that was the same Willie’s Tug. It was, based on the MMSI number.

Hi Barry,

The last time we saw Mac and Linda they were on their Motorsailer in Comox in 2016. When Mac did our factory experience training in 2015 they had sold their R27 for the motorsailer.

I have heard from Captain Mac and Linda in the past year. They have a Kadey Krogen Pilothouse trawler that they keep in Anacortes. Great people!

A side note, I was inspired by Mac (and others) to earn my Captains and Master license. The course work by Flagship Marine complimented the years and thousands of miles cruising on three Ranger Tugs, Tribute and the other 4 boats we had. Laurie and I are doing two-day seminars, "Comfortable Cruising in Smaller Boats" and I am a Training/Teaching Captain to help people with their first boat, would like more confidence, or is a requirement by an insurance company. Let me know if I can help you in anyway.

Niceee.... Capt. Mac & Linda had two large dogs and suspect the R-27 was a bit confining. The MotorSailer is a fine boat with lots of space compared to the R-27 for sure. Glad to hear they're still on the waters in our PNW area. Next time I'm in Anacortes I'll try and get a look at their boat.
