Too often the web and chat rooms are for complaining, rather than complimenting (although this one is an exception to that). I have no complaints, only compliments. Here they are:

This weekend Barbara and I took possession of our newish R-27, Tugnacious. Lee Shobe took great care of the boat before trading it in, and Jeff Messmer sold it to us. It is in brand new condition. Dealing with Jeff was easy and straightforward. One phone call and everything was wrapped up.

Jeff then turned us over to a terrific group of people who gave us exceptional value and service. I recommend these to you all if you are thinking about buying. Mike Jenkins of Trident Marine handled the purchase and loan efficiently and with a sense of humor--often needed in the complex transaction that is boat buying (more complex than a house!). Bob Schwab of Anchor Marine Insurance instantly came up with a terrific policy at an unbeatable price. Margaux Serock put the name on the boat. Dave at King Marine added some canvas, also at a great price. All were easy to deal with and very fair.

And of course, we ended up in the hands of the legendary Andrew Custis at the end. Is there a more helpful person, much less more patient? Andrew has more than earned the many accolades he gets on this site. Thanks, Andrew.

Occasionally you have the perfect buying experience. We certainly did (of course it didn't hurt that the weather was great). And reading this site for some time now, it appears that all the distributors are the same. Something about the culture of the Ranger Tug/Cutwater boats. I dunno. Just is.

Tugnacious R-27 (small, tough, seaworthy boat with attitude)

ps: we discovered this weekend that Tugnacious is the perfect name. When you turn on the water inside the water pressure pump goes "grrr grrr grrr".

And we have to add one more comment to the list of good things about the Ranger Tug buying experience. For those of you who live in the San Francisco Bay Area, Farallone Yachts in Alameda is the group to go to. They are knowledgeable, congenial and helpful. They are the best and I recommend them most highly. Tracey is awesome....

Jeff:

Thanks for posting all that, and the San Francisco Farallone Yachts in Alameda reference. I mention this as my daughter who lives in SF is very keen on buying the Ranger Tug R21 and wanted to know who she could chat with. My daughter was with me at the Anacortes Trawler Fest and spoke with Jeff Messmer about the R21 as she's absolutely focused on the cute little R21.

The Ranger Tug employees are the best. Their after sales service is second to none IMO. If you have questions, issues, problems they will not hesitate to help... and this is true of the many Tugnut people posting on this forum.

Lee's R27 was cover docked across from my slip in Edmonds WA for the 4 months he owned it. It looked awesome from my slip and I watched him several times whizzing about outside the Port Of Edmonds having fun and getting experience with the boat's features etc. Of course, he's now into his new R31 which is larger and docked to far away for me to see... 🙁

Enjoy your R27... and yes, the fresh water pump does make the "grrr grrr grrr" noise and alerts everyone you're taking a shower, right ?

Jeff,

Congratulations on the tug purchase! I know you thought long and hard since joining Tugnuts and asking questions of all on this bulletin board about what, when and where to buy. Yes, there are problems but they are always solvable as you know from our talks. The boat is a beauty and I look forward to your bringing her to New England, as we have talked about, to enjoy the Cape Cod area waters. All the best of luck!
