Hi Everyone,

I'm looking for some feedback from C-28 owners. I've been looking for a hybrid cruising/fishing boat and this one seems to check all of the boxes. I'm leaning towards getting a new 2019 model. Few questions:
1. That would be the first boat that I own - anything I should be beware of? Any design problems? (haven't found anything obvious searching this forum)
2. I have some boating experience, but never helmed anything that big. I know that there will be some learning curve. Is this boat too much for a less experienced boater?
3. Will I need an outboard kicker for serious fishing, or is the inboard with the low speed value good enough? I'm talking trolling for salmon in the PNW (PS and San Juans).
4. If you got your boat brand new from a dealer, how much you were able to negotiate the price down, if at all? Feel free to PM me if you'd rather not post publicly.

Thanks and hope to stick around here as a new owner!

Thanks!
Pawel

i have a 2012 and have owned for 5 years.

i posted this thread a while back. http://www.tugnuts.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=12942&hilit=cutwater+28

1. generally the boat is well thought out and nothing major to worry about. you will get 2 foot itus at some point. 😀
2. you will be fine.
3. i think its more a question on how many hours you want to put on the main engine.
4. yes but depends on time of year. but covid has changed things. unclear how the boat sales market has changed.

I spent quite a bit of time looking at a 28 vs 30 ft and sea trialed both. WHile the 30 is definitely more money the extra beam and length makes the boat more comfortable and stable. I suggest you talk to one of the local PNW dealer like the folks at Bellingham Yachts. They seemed more than open to taking buyers out in both boats as well as a Ranger tug so you make sure you buy what works for you

We bought a 2015 C28 at the end of May and have been cruising, crabbing, and now fishing with it in the Port Townsend, WA area. We love the boat. I'll private message you with more details and try to answer any questions you have.

Pawel,
I have a better than new,(many many extras --all the new boat bugs worked out),2017 CW 28 Luxury edition for sale. Garage kept, always freshwater, never fished.
Give me a shout if interested.

Thanks a lot for comments and PMs everyone - this is super helpful. Right now it’s between a new c-28 and a used c-30. Touring a couple of c-30s tomorrow, and we’ll make a call then. Either way, I’m fairly sure I’ll end up with one of these boats soon 🙂.
