Hi everyone
I am getting to know the boat better everyday, one thing I need help with. I can hear the pump for the toilet and it sounds to be under the sink. Is there an access hatch or ? I am getting a very small amount of water into the bilge. I had a small leak in the fresh water pump which I fixed by swapping out the strainer with the wash down pump ( great move having the same pumps!! ) I am wanting now to check out the water supply pump for the toilet

Are you using the shower? You may be hearing the shower sump pump which is below the shower. Because the shower drain is below water level, it needs the sump pump to move the water up and out the through hull.

The fresh water to the head is powered by the main fresh water pump which supplies the galley and head faucets.

You may also be hearing the secondary bilge pump which is somewhat forward. You can test that possibility by turning it on manually at the DC panel and seeing if it's the same sound source.

Thanks Bruce got all those things covered and understood, I had a sump pump in my Sea Ray so well versed with that.
As I understand it the water for the toilet is not from the fresh water tank but from the water the Tug is floating in. I know I can use the toilet with the water pressure turned off. which helps confirm this.. also there is a line coming from the sea strainer that heads up behind the cabinets which I cannot account for.
 
What year R29 do you have? I have a 2012 and was told it uses water from the tank, not sea water.

Moondance is a 2012 R-29 and uses fresh water. You should shoot the factory an email with your hull # and get the particulars on your boat.

Wolf Pack is a 2011 R-29 and also uses fresh water.

Mine is 2011 also... Didn't call yet will tomorrow I know mine worked with water pump turned off..
 
Yes, Wolf Pack (2011 R-29) also works with the main water pressure breaker in the OFF position. I believe the toilet apparently has its own separate pump tied directly to the fresh water supply.

FYI, if you only have two lines coming from the strainer, then your toilet system is for sure NOT using sea water.

At least that is what both Howard and Andrew have told me (the part about the two lines from the strainer).

Very interesting....why would they switch from lake/sea water to fresh water for toilet flushing?

Turn off the pressure water switch and bleed off all of the pressure in the fresh water lines by running the sink pump. There may be enough pressure in the system to make you THINK that you have a separate pump. If it's fresh water from the same tank it means extra expense to install and maintain a separate pump just for that purpose.

I would prefer sea water so as to not be using fresh water .. I will get to the bottom of it I have 3 lines coming off sea strainer 1 is white and goes behind cabinets That is the one I suspect is for the Lou
 
Ok.. everyone is correct. My 29 is sea water but there was a running change to fresh water in 2011 ..so you may or may not have fresh water for toilet, depending when you tug was hatched.... If you have 3 lines from strainer you have sea water. The pump for the sea water is located behind the bulkhead . I'm told easiest access is to remove bulkhead in front of engine in case anyone needs to know... Just wanted to share my findings. Andrew told me that salt water tends to smell over time in the toilet , so they changed to using the fresh water. I hope one day to have this problem as that will mean I have traveled beyond my comfort zone 🙂

It's not the fact that it's saltwater, it's all the living organisms that live in the saltwater and die in the toilet hoses. I much prefer a fresh water flush for the toilet. On our C-Dory, we put a ball valve in the water line to the toilet to control water usage. It is easy to over-use water with a flush. Our shower sprayer works great for flushing and we use way less fresh water. If we are not in a marina and are trying to be really conservative with water, we use water in a bottle (not the same as bottled water) to flush.

You need enough to do the job, not so much that it uses your fresh water faster and fills your black tank sooner.
