Has anyone had any issues with the electric Torqeedo 1003 such as grinding sounds or vibration? Does not seem to matter whether high or low speeds. Would be interested in knowing of anything similar with this model. Thanks.
Don

My 1003L (long shaft) makes a whine when underway, but makes no grinding noise and vibration is close to non existent. The whine noise increases with motor RPM.

Are you sure you have all three pieces connected securely ? It kind of sounds as if something is maybe out of balance. Is the plastic prop damaged in any way ?

Suggest you contact Sven Kirchhoff below for finding out what your issue is. I believe the warranty is 1 year.

I spoke with Sven today and he indicated to take the prop off and see if something got caught up in the prop. He also said that there is an internal gearbox and it is possible that something is not meshing properly. Everything looks good, started off fine yesterday and quickly developed a grinding noise...didn't matter what speed. I was the first time on the tender this year and the Torqeedo was stored dry. I'll try taking the prop off and inspect before I make my way to the dealer.
Thanks,
Don

Don: Please post back what you find out what creates the 'grinding' noise. You never know as it may help others and myself if ever this issue happens to others with Torqeedo motors. Thanks. 🙂

It has occurred to me that I did not post my Torqeedo 'grinding' results. I'm fortunate in that there is a dealer in Vancouver BC --Roton Industries and they were most helpful. It was the internal gearbox that became out of align and they had to order a new part. This took about 2 weeks from start to finish. They ordered the part from Torqeedo and replaced the gearbox and seems to be good as new again. Used it all summer! Fortunately it was all under warranty. The dealer said that they have had some issues with grinding noise from the gearbox. Seems to be the weakest link in the construction. But they also said that once they fix them they are better than new.

Thanks for that info. 🙂
