Towing issues

I am having a boat delivered to Newport, OR. The boat is now three days late due to permit issues.

The last issue, and most upsetting, is that the State of Oregon requires an escort vehicle for trailers over 10 feet. I am hoping to measure the boat at less than 10 feet, but would like to know if anyone else has had these issues, and how they were resolved. Interstate roads are OK, I think. It may just be the route the permit was applied for.

We purchased this boat to go across country. We just can't get it out of the state.

You must have an R-29 or R-31 with a 10 foot beam. I would recommend joining Boatus. They contract out to a company that specializes in towing permits, planning the best routes and state requirements. Of course there is a fee involved however, other members have used it and saves a lot of headaches.

I always list my boat as 9 ft. 11 incbes.... So many people are towing as big or bigger with no permits I'm finding out. The actual is 10 ft. Good luck... This should be an easy thing to do.. That's why the boats are the size they are.

It was just the route requested. The state issued the permit and changed the route, no pilot car required. I already have Mercury Permits set up for us, but the boat was delivered by a professional delivery company. They had trouble in two different states. I know a lot of users have said to simply get the permits ourselves, but when the pros have problems, I get worried.

Our boat is now in the water and we hope to have her hauled for bottom paint next week. We can't tow her to the yard without a pilot car. We can, however, cruise her 10 miles up the river.,

We are in Newport, Oregon. Our next door neighbor is a Ranger 31. Does she belong to any of you?
