I have a 2012 29 Ranger w/ a 2019 Float On trailer. I have about 3600 miles on the trailer. I have not put it on a scale but I figure between the boat w/ generator, supplies, fuel, water & trailer I am at about 13,000 pounds. Just returned from towing the boat from Florida & the rear starboard tire is shot. Tires are ST 225/75R15 load range D. At 65 psi these tire are rated for 2200 pounds each = 13,200 pounds. I think the trailer should have load range E tires which are rated for 80 psi ,2830 pounds = 16,980 pounds. I talked to the trailer manufacturer when I saw the tire wearing more than the other tires ( on my latest trip) & they asked what air pressure I was running & I said 60 psi. He said it should be 80 psi ( I think he was thinking that my tires were load range E). He told me to send pictures, so I did that today.
What tires & load range are you guy using?

Quite a few of us on here have switched to the Goodyear Endurance trailer tires. Do a search on them and see previous posts.

You need load range E trailer tires. The Goodyear Endurance are getting very good reviews. That said, you’re not going to get 70,000 miles on them! Keep the tire pressure at 75-80 psi on them. Plan on changing out every three years or so. Good luck!

Goodyear Endurance load range E and metal 100 psi valve stems. Always run at max rated pressure (80 PSI). Replace at first sidewall crack or 5 years max. Keep sun covers on them when not in use if outdoors.

Matt,

We bought our trailer with the boat... 2013 Loadmaster. Tires: E, 235/80R16, 80 lbs. We’ve towed her about the same as you, about 3500 miles. We just returned from Brunswick, Ga. No problems and no visible wear. She is steel however and we don’t dip her in the salt water.

Let us know how you make out.

I am wondering how the tries got miss-matched with the trailer. Or is the trailer made for a lighter boat?

Load range E is needed for a boat that big. I keep 80psi in the tires when trailering with the boat on and when I am trailering without the boat on I reduce the pressure to 30psi. We do a lot of Logistic trailering while Loop segmenting. What is the load capacity of the trailer ? What is the axel weight rating ? Based on the tire size and tire load rating I believe your trailer would be rated for 15000lbs which for a 29 Tug is a bit undersized. The rating is based on the total boat weight plus the trailer weight. A 29 Tug should have a trailer rating of 16500lbs minimum but if it was me I would want a trailer with a gross of 18000 lbs with 16" load range E tires. I have a tri-axel 15000lbs trailer for my C26.Trailer rated for 12500lbs boat + trailer weight 2500lbs 15" load range E Good Year Endurance this gives me a comfort zone. Assuming the Float-on trailer has torsion suspension which is independent suspension and only one tire shows extreme wear I would not only be looking at higher rated tires but I would also take a look at the Axel. Uneven wear on a trailer tire can be caused from to high or to low of pressure. It also can be caused from axel alignment, bent axel, weak suspension or overloading. One very important factor when towing with multiple axel trailers is the trailer needs to ride level giving each axel equal weight. Good luck finding the solution. Hopefully just a bad tire but I would confirm trailer rating.
