Question for those of you that trailer your tugs. Bought a new Loadrite trailer--it doesn't have a keel roller in the front or on the rear cross member.Do you have them on your trailers? Are they necessary ? My old trailer is an Easy Load and it had them. Cheers Ray V.

Ray, pictures would help if you have them. As long as you have rollers that support your hull adequately, the keel ones won't add much if anything.

A keel roller is not needed on the rear as long as the keel has clearance. The front is most important so when you run it up on the trailer it does not hit the front cross member. We have always used a bunk trailer just because of the safety aspect.

Having both, I have to say I enjoy using the roller trailer ( Loadrite 5 STARR ) compared the bunk trailer (which I basically just tolerate because that is what the factory wants)...
There is no danger of hitting the keel on the crossmember as the rollers will not allow it to happen anymore than the bunks will, assuming in both cases the trailers are properly adjusted..
The roller trailer is easy to use making single handed loading and unloading a pleasure... I can see why the factory declines to let us use roller trailers - because we will enjoy it too much...

I went with the rollers since I will be loading and unloading mainly by myself. I've adjusted the rollers so the keel doesn't touch the cross members. One ramp I use is steep and there is a chance that the bow could hit the front cross member before it touches the V block at the winch. I'll put a front roller on to be on the safe side. This forum is great!!!!!! Thanks for all your replies. Cheers Ray

If the ramp is that steep, I would be inclined to put a wood shoe between the cross member at risk and the one aft of it, and just barely standing proud of the offending cross member..

I have a pair of these mounted on my trailer in the area that Denny has described and they work great.

Sorry Denny, I just thought you might need a laugh after all of the problems with your ECM..... 😀

Thanks Eric... ECM? I don't remember anything about those initials... Now, the hollow feeling in my wallet is a nagging pain...
