I'm working on a project of collecting boating, maintenance and project tips for "trailerable boats" for a BoatUS Trailering Magazine article. I have a good list started but I, like most of us I would imagine, get our best ideas from others. So based on this I'm soliciting any fellow Tugnut members to post one of your favorite or recently learned about trailerable boating tips and or maintenance or project tips. This would or could be useful for this forum's members and ultimately some of ideas may make it into the magazine.

I'll get it started....corrosion of our metal tools we carry on our boats can be a big problem. One boater I spoke with recently states that he sprays a bit of WD40 on a paper towel or rag and places it inside of his tool bag and or container and that this works to help keep the tools lubricated and rust free.

To clean out your toilets plumbing lines and choker valve.....in a dry head pour 1/2 baking soda into the bowl, add 1 cup of white vinegar and dry flush the contents so the mixture goes into the plumbing lines. Let it sit overnight or for an extended period and then perform a normal flush. During the initial process do this routine a few times during the first week to really clean the lines and choker valve and then every few months or as needed to help control odors from the heads plumbing.

Lets here from you about your ideas....

As you note driving down the highway you frequently see boats on trailers with flat tires. Trailer tires are only safe for about seven years. One needs to check the manufacters date code on the inside of the tire. It tells the month and year. You may have purchased a 2008 trailer, but the tires could be a year or two older. It is time and sitting, especially in the sun that causes ply seperation. Also check wheel bearings and be sure to lubricate the ball.

Hello Robert,

Welcome to Tugnuts and THANKS for the tip!

Thanks Robert and those that have sent PM messages about TIPS for our trailerable boating, maintenance and projects, please keep posting them. Another idea that helps those of us with unsealed interior wood. Pledge makes a product called Revitalizing Oil. Apply on a clean towel and rub with the grain to clean, nourish and preserve the wood. It's easy and gives the wood a nice rich look.

Tips that can help us all can be about our trailers, boat handling, docking, electrical, just anything at all.
