I am faced with having to replace my Garmin 5212 GPS with the current model 1243 xsv. Can someone tell me what kind of transducer is installed and where it is located?
I recently bought my boat and it's on the trailer and could not see if it is a through Hull transducer.
Thanks,
Ken

On the 2012 R27 we had the transducer was a glued on style. Ours was mounted at the stern of the boat, to the port side of center. If I recall correct open the stern seat cover to gain access behind the tank.

I could be wrong, but I think the newer model has much better capabilities than the old one and hence could use a newer model chirp transducer. For my money and the trouble I would probably go with a new transducer and an actual thru-hull transducer. It will be more reliable and will also have the capability of water temperature. They are low profile so there won't be a bunk issue while on the trailer. You may want to also ask your supplier for a recommended transducer and see what they have to say.

The in-hull sonar transducer in my 2012 R27 is an Airmar model P27. It is located near the aft starboard corner of the hull. This is a difficult location to reach. One need to remove the floor from the aft cockpit seat to get there. Hope you have long arms!

Hi Ken,

Most likely you have an Airmar P79 transducer on your boat. Osprey is correct on the location. Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Ralf
