Does the cutwater use a transducer for the garmin depth reading?

I would assume so as the Ranger tugs use them. Depending on the model, they are located in different places. Our 2015 R31-CB has one located on the starboard side of the keel, way in the stern. It sits on a base and 1/4 turn screws into the base. Base requires a liquid (such as anti freeze)....no liquid - no reading.

To my knowledge, Fluid Motion has always installed in-hull transducers in all their boats.

Many previous threads on Tugnuts about these working intermittently, recommendations in this case is to reseal housing to inside of hull and make sure housing is full of anti-freeze.

The trick is locating and accessing the factory installed transducer, which ranges from complete pain in the ass to impossible.

Last Fall I gave up on mine and had thru-hull transducer (Airmar B619 w/Garmin 8-pin connector) installed, port side next to diesel engine, opposite of water intake. Works fantastic, reads down to 800', never loses bottom reading, also tells water temp.

Yes to transducer, and on our C30 sedan the transducer was accessed inside the hatch at the base of the stateroom berth, next to where the shower sump box is.

That is where our 32 CB transducer is also. Difficult to get at and repair unless you're a 95 pound contortionist...

I have the 2018 30 with outboards. Was fishing out of SWFL well offshore and mine quit. Found the typical airmar in same location as Sailor did but found two. I found first one intact still in its mount, so went searching for loose wires. When searching around for loose wires I found some and pulled out the second transducer which is the one being sourced. It had pooped out of its mount and was rolling around. Wasn't till I pulled on the wires did I know I had a second transducer - found the mount and back up in working. I have owned numerous vessels with read thru hull transducers. over time and hard sea conditions that mount can spring a leak at base mounting point at the hull or base may get a crack (just old plastic) and liquid runs out causing failure to read. Key points are don't install over finished gel coast inside the hull (will not read), sand that interior gel coat off to clean fiberglass as it will give a clear read and a mounting good mounting point for the base with 5200. be careful with mounting the base as the mount is marked with degrees must get this right for proper fit against the hull (dry fit first). I see the mention to fill the mounting cup with antifreeze. I have always used mineral oil but I'm in Fl so not familiar with cold installation concerns. So, it needs a liquid and I have used bottled water in a pinch.
