I've read several threads on transducers and am planning to upgrade mine in winter, hence, would like a current view of what's working well. The currently installed Garmin GT15M lacks temp, clear view and side view Garmin features. I need to know what is recommend for installing, additionally, on my boat to make the two installed Garmin 7612s suitable for offshore fishing.

Depending on the fish species you are targeting and the depths you would be working in there are many transducers that could help. I have the Gt51m-thp on our boat but I think we are targeting different fish and are fishing in different depths. Side view works well for us when we are looking for schooling fish that our main transducer cone is not picking up. For example when sockeye are around and they are actually open in our area side view can really help. But side view doesn’t work well at deeper depths so it may or may not help you. I suggest that you try The Hull Truth and post on there describing what you are targeting and where you will be fishing and you will get some interesting and in some cases very expert advice. Some of the guys sell the components there also so you have to take that into account. Also and obviously, you need to figure out the best location for your transducer (s) so that they work as efficiently as possible. Stepped hulls cause bubbles and bubbles are not good with transducers which need undisturbed water. Good luck and I’ll be interested in what you finally decide. PM me if you want and I’ll tell you what I know.
