1. On the 2021 R 27, I believe the included transducer is an in-hull transducer. Which model transducer is it and how does it perform for fishing? Not going offshore, but am curious if it is worth an upgrade (if one exists).

2. Trying to understand the "Vinylester barrier coat." The Ranger Tug website says that is included, and I understand the point of barrier coat and its necessity if you are keeping the boat in the water. But in prepping the boat for launch, the dealer quote to do the initial bottom paint on the hull to keep it in the water seems high if the boat comes with a barrier coat already on it. Is there some magic to prepping these boats for bottom paint?

Thanks in advance.

Congats on the purchase good choice in my book.

The factory in hull transduce I believe is the Garmin GT-15. it has chirp technology. I am looking to add a Garmin GT36UHD Transom mount for clear and side VU.

Bottom paint protects the hull from the damage from growth that forms on the hull.

Cheers

Hello,

The model transducer is the Garmin GT-15M, you can read up on Garmins website on it but we haven't had anybody say it doesn't work good for fishing.

The coat we use works good for boats in fresh water (mainly), we recommend bottom painting the boat if it is going to stay in salt water. Typically the first coat is high due to the amount of prep work that goes into that first layer.

Hope this helps!!

We have 2020 r27 and have found the factory transducer to be very good for salmon fishing. As well as shrimping and crabbing. We can easily see clouds of shrimp in over 300 feet of water.

Regarding the bottom paint, I was at the boat yard this week talking to the guys doing the actual bottom painting.

The first coat requires the hull to be sanded to remove wax and create a surface for the paint to adhere to. Then two coats of paint are applied. This means three actual days of painting because the support blocks have to be moved to put the paint on those areas after the first two days/layers on the exposed part.

Repainting is pressure washing the hull, and assuming no repairs, a single layer of paint.

And the paint is rolled on, not sprayed.

This is a fair amount of labor because all the through hulls are taped off in addition to the water line and transom area.

Kevin: Can the factory do a salt water specific bottom paint when we order a new boat?

Hello,

The only factory bottom painting we offer is with a factory delivery. Otherwise the boat comes without bottom paint but usually the selling dealer can do in house or works with a shop that does bottom paint. Also depending on where you are mooring the boat some paints are better than others, best to work with a local shop that does bottom painting. Hope this helps.

Thanks,
