Hello everyone. Just took my maiden voyage on my 2016 C28 to Two Harbors on Catalina Island. It was awesome. My technical question is regarding a Paramount transom mounted bait bag. They only require two small mounts and have removable supporting arms making them easily stowable and quick to set up when needed. They do require a constant flow of water to keep the bait fresh. My C28 has a salt water washdown located off the port side of the cockpit seat. My question is would the pump installed by the factory be sufficient for the constant flow of water for several hours of continuous use or would that be a use the pump was not designed to handle? My fear is that the pump could overheat under the stress of 8 - 12 hours of constant flow. Does anyone here have any experience with this type of set up?

I asked the pump factory this question and they said it was fine for this use. It's basically the same pump used on bait wells in any event.

I just found the email from the factory. I asked "I just purchased a Ranger Tug R29 CB and was wondering if the raw water wash down pump included on the boat can be used for a bait tank as well. The boat manufacturer suggested I contact you. They installed the 5.2GPM wash down pump." The answer was:

Eric,

Yes the 5.2 WD can be used as a baitwell pump.

Thank you for your reply Scuba. The GPM for the pump was very helpful. I'm going to pull the trigger and buy one at Mako Matt's next week when I'm in Huntington Beach. My buddy has one and it seems to work pretty well.

I have the R29 CB and it looks like the stern is similar to yours. Where do you plan on hanging the bag and what size are you getting? I'm may do the same thing 🙂

I'm going to mount it on the transom on the port side. My raw water washdown is on the port side of the cockpit seat. Also the cockpit door is on the starboard side of my C28. It's a clever little set up with the two small D-brackets and everything else being easily set-up/take down. I'll probably go with the 14" unit but I'm leaving the door open for the 20" model. It looks like the pump will handle either one. There are a few yellowtail out at Catalina with my name on them.
